FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
WHAT IS PERANENT/SEMI PERANENT MAKE UP?It is an advanced form of cosmetic tattooing, the pigments are inserted into the dermal layer of the skin, that means it cannot be washed off and periodic maintenance (usually an annual colour boost) is needed as they will fade over time. Semi-permanent make up isn't like normal tattoos which go deeper into the skin which makes them Permanent. The other terms used for these procedures are Micropigmentation, PMU (permanent make up), SPMU (semi-permanent make up) or cosmetic tattoos.
-
DOES HAVING THESE PROCEDURES DONE HURT?Most clients say no, however we all have different pain thresholds, but we do everything in our power to make all of our clients comfortable by using the best and most effective topical anaesthetics and making sure every client feels comfortable during the process. The sensation I would describe it to feel like is a scratchy feeling, some areas are slightly more than others.
-
HOW LONG DOES SEMI PERMANENT MAKE UP LAST?Usually a couple of years but everyone is different with different skin types and age they will be having the procedure. We recommend seeing clients for an annual top up which is approximately half the cost of the original procedure and only one appointment.
-
HOW MANY APPOINTMENTS DO I NEED?If this is your first time having a procedure it is always a two-appointment process. The first appointment I will do a full consultation, discuss what you want to achieve, shape, colour etc, fill in a medical questionnaire, consent form, go through aftercare and also give you aftercare balm to take home with you so you can apply it during your healing process. Approximately 4-6 weeks later you will return for a top up which is included in the price, it's important for you to have a top up as some areas will be some faded during the healing process, it will also allow me to add more colour so it lasts longer. This is also a chance for you to say if you would like a darker or lighter colour, thicker or longer once you have your semi-permanent make up for a few weeks you will know if you would like to have it tweaked or not.
-
WILL I BE ABLE TO CONTINUE WITH MY DAY AFTERWARDS?Yes, you will be able to continue with your day if that's returning to work, have lunch or dinner out or an event you have to attend, some people might experience some slight swelling on the area but that will subside within a short amount of time. The area will look darker in colour until the area has fully healed in a few days, so it will look like you have applied make up to that area.
-
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO HEAL?Everybody is different but the average healing time is 4-5 days some people can take up to 9-10 days, it depends on the person who had the procedure done with factors like the age and skin type, also depending on the area that was treated as an eyeliner will take half the time to heal that a full lip would.
-
HOW MUCH COLOUR WILL FADE DURING THE HEALING PROCESS?The colour you will leave with is stronger than the healed result, as you will lose some colour when the scabs fall off revealing the chosen colour you decided on in the consultation suiting your skin tone and colouring. You will lose about 40% of the colour on eyebrows and eyeliner, about 50% on the lips. this is why we say it's important to have your top up 4-6 weeks after your first procedure to boost the lost colour. Semi-permanent make up will look like strong going out make up for the first few days.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I DONT LIKE IT?As long as you choose the right practitioner who listens carefully to what you want to achieve this should never happen. Semi-permanent make up is a two-part procedure so if by the time for your top up you would like some changes to be made this is your chance to do so, darker or lighter colour can be used, thicker or longer shape can be applied. With Cosmetic tattoos you pay for the experience and knowledge of the practitioner and the quality of products they use like good quality pigments, numbing creams, aftercare balms and the environment you will have the procedure done in.
-
IS SEMI PERMANENT MAKE UP SAFE?If you choose the right practitioner who is fully trained and experienced, they will take you through the whole process in your consultation, covering colour theory for your skin tone and colouring, listen to what you want to achieve from the procedure, they will explain the equipment and pigments they are using and checking you don't have any allergies to any of it.
-
